Southern California’s transit system isn’t completely broken. What I really mean by that is if it wasn’t such an inconvenience then maybe more people would use it. For an easy $7.50 you can buy yourself a one-way ticket to Union Station on the Metrolink. It’s really hard to appreciate this if you’ve never owned a car and had to drive to any part of L.A., being stuck in traffic for hours. The train ride itself took maybe half an hour and once you arrive you get greeted by the conductor announcing “You are now in Dodgers territory!” He was not wrong about that because everywhere you looked in Union Station you saw nothing but Dodger Blue.
The inconvenience of transit systems are really the times and locations. Trains start early as 6 in the morning to 8 at night. Why not run a little later and allow more people to enjoy a night life, without worrying to make it back to the train on time? Fortunately Bob and I didn’t have to worry about running late and got hooked up with Mikey picking us up from Union Station to spend a little time with him and Nat at their new place.
They showed us around their new favorite local spots including The Heights Deli and Marcellino’s Cafe. Now Marcellino’s Cafe is not really like a cafe but a bar. The crowd in there were older hispanic people enjoying their Friday night drinking, dancing, and playing pool. When our group of misfits came in we got nothing but sharp stares. After a while I like to think they finally warmed up to us because as we were playing pool they gave us potato taquitos with chips and salsa on the house!
We ended the night playing Guitar Hero until 3 in the morning. The Dodgers also won that night.
